Regional YMCA Announces Funding from Wells Fargo

Designated to Support Youth Leadership Programming

The Regional YMCA of Western CT is pleased to announce an award made from Wells Fargo in support of scholarships for inner city youth to participate in the ESCAPE to the Arts Leadership programs. The Leadership programs serve youth aged 11-18 years of age and include Afterschool, Student Advisory Committee, Youth & Government, Service Club, Women Leaders Rising and ACHIEVERS.  The programs provide a wide range of opportunities for the youth with a strong focus on Youth Development.  Faculty work with students on developing leadership and team building skills and the importance of planning; together exploring career options and post secondary education.

According to Marie Miszewski, President & CEO  “with a focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility the Y continues to collaborate with our business and community leaders in providing creative and innovative opportunities to engage our children”.  In their commitment to community service, many of the youth involved in the program can be seen volunteering throughout the Main Street area painting store front windows, face painting at community wide events, sweeping sidewalks in addition to volunteering at the Y.

“Wells Fargo is committed to the communities we serve and delighted to support educational opportunities that enrich the future leaders of tomorrow,” said Lucille Harriman, Senior Vice President for Wells Fargo. “We are proud to work with the YMCA, and we commend the important work they do.”

The ESCAPE to the Arts programs are offered at the YMCA Center for the Arts and Humanities, located at 293 Main Street at the corner of White Street. For more information on the ESCAPE to the Arts adult and youth programs and projects call 203.794.1413 or visit www.regionalymca.org.
