Their drum sticks are taped, their plumes are fluffed and the weather looks great for Saturday for Bethel High School marching band’s biggest show of the year, Quest for the Best.

Quest for the Best is a competition between area marching bands and colorguards. This event is the BHS band/colorguard’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Students look forward to the performance all year. Last year, 2011, Quest was not held due to scheduling issues and students said they were very disappointed. In 2010 the event was held on the Danbury High School field because the new BHS track was not ready yet. For 15 years prior, as well as this year, Bethel High School hosts the competition that is held on the BHS football field.

The BHS Marching Wildcats were 2011 state champs in both the Musical Arts Conference (M.A.C.)  and USSBA circuits, and are undefeated so far this year as well in their Class II division. This year’s home show features music from  “QUIDAM” from the world-famous Cirque Du Soleil. According to Cirque Du Soleil, “the music of Quidam is of remarkable dramatic intensity, drawing on influences that range from classical to the most contemporary.”

Five area bands will come together this Saturday at 6:00p.m. to compete at Bethel High School  with the BHS marching band performing an exhibition show. Proceeds from the event go to cover not only the marching band’s general expenses, but also the jazz and symphonic bands as well. The performance schedule is as follows:

Marching Band Class III
Naugatuck High School 06:05 PM
Marching Band Class II
Brookfield High School 06:20 PM
Jonathan Law High School 06:35 PM
Shelton High School 06:50 PM
Intermission 07:05 PM
Bethel High School 07:50 PM
End Time 08:05 PM

Come out and support your local high school marching band, enjoy some hot food, baked goods, hot and cold beverages and great performances.

Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students.
