All Ages Venue “The Room” to Hold Fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy

All-ages music club “The Room” in Brookfield is hosting a  show this Saturday night as a platform to raise awareness for Spaghetti Arms, a cause to raise awareness about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

Spaghetti Arms is a volunteer project run by friends who are dedicated to raising awareness of DMD and fundraising to find a cure. Spaghetti Arms donated to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, an organization that makes sure the money goes to the right place – research.

The owner of  The Room, Vern Nickerson, has a good friend, Sean Quigg, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and will share his story. Nickerson said: “Sean has not DMD stop him from being one of the most vocal supporters of the local music scene. It is one of the reasons that The Room wants to make sure this event has a good support for Sean and his great cause.”

Quigg as far back as kindergarten he remembers walking through the halls and not being able to keep up. “I would fall down  and I knew then what was up. It was never a secret.”

He has been at many events to promote Spaghetti Arms. This year Quigg had a tent at Bamboozle and this Saturday, May 26 he will be at The Room to share his story.

Quigg said: “People tend to laugh at the name [Spaghetti Arms] thinking its a joke, unless they’ve seen the logo or the message. It is a silly name but I didn’t know it at the time of creation. I think it’s great if people come up and ask me questions, it means they’re truly interested. Often times people will say ‘so what am I donating to?’ and I am more than willing to explain everything. I’ll answer any question even though most start with ‘Why are you in a wheelchair anyway’?”

Local band Face the King and special guests A Social State will be playing, as well as many other bands. Click here for a complete lineup and details.

Advance Tickets are available for $10.00 or $14.00 at the door. Click here for info on purchasing tickets.
