Mackenzie Newsome has a lot of supporters in her corner. Earlier today the Stony Hill Fire Department raised close to $3,000, according to Chelsea Berg, volunteer. Danielle Demato and Doug Evanuska organized the event, along with members of the Stony Hill Fire Department, to help the Danbury three-year-old who was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymph Node cancer.

Mackenzie Newsome has hundreds, if not thousands, of supporters who have rallied around her family with prayers, donations and support to help get them through this difficult time. It was reported in the News Times that the family is under a financial burden due to the expense of hospital bills and travel expenses to bring Mackenzie to treatments. On top of all that, Mackenzie’s father was, or will be soon, getting laid off from work.

Word quickly spread on Facebook that the Danbury family needed help and the community rallied with dozens of events to help raise funds. The Moose Lodge in Danbury held a fundraising dinner two weeks ago. In Naugatuck a dodgeball game fundraiser was organized. Today’s boot drive was very well attended and this evening supporters can help by attending “Meatballs for Mackenzie” at Delevina’s Deli on Hayestown Road in Danbury. They will be selling meatball wedges, meatballs with sauce and Patty’s pasta sauce all for $5.00. All proceeds will go to the Newsome family.

Tomorrow, Sunday April 15 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Escape Salon and Day Spa in Bethel will hold “A Day For Mackeznie” fundraiser at their salon which is located at 232 Greenwood Ave. in Bethel. Area stylists will donate their time to give haircuts, manicures and pedicures. Take Time Relaxation Center in Bethel will also be available for massages. All funds will be donated to the Newsome family.

Next Saturday night “Zumba 4 Mackenzie” aims to raise even more funds to help the little girl get the treatments she needs. Tickets are now on sale for the event which is slated to take place on Saturday, April 21st from 6-8 p.m. at Wesconn. Doors open at 5 p.m. There will be five instructors teaching Zumba, a 50/50 raffle and many more prizes to be raffled off. Souvenir T-shirts will be available to purchase.
