“I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.”

~Charles Dickens

It’s Christmas time in Bethel for Christians who celebrate. Church goers will participate in special worship services both on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, which, this year, falls on Saturday and Sunday. Some services are formal, some informal, but all reverently celebrate the “reason for the season.” Below is information with service times for Christmas and Christmas Eve from local churches.

Father Corey shared in his most recent newsletter new information regarding St. Mary Church’s Christmas services:

“I am sharing again with you the changes in our Christmas schedule of Masses for 2011.  It has been tradition to celebrate a 4:00pm Mass on Christmas Eve in the Church and a 4:15pm Mass in the School Gym.  It is also a tradition that the majority of those attending the Mass in the gym are not happy about it and would rather have Christmas Mass in our beautifully decorated Church. So we have a new offering this year.  We shall celebrate Masses for Christmas at the following times:

Christmas Eve:  4:00pm, 5:30pm, 7:00pm, and 12:00 midnight.

Christmas Day: 7:00am, 8:30am, 10:00am and 11:30am.

“All Masses will be celebrated in the Church.  (Note, there will be NO 4:15 in the School Gym, and NO 5:30pm on Christmas Day. Parking for the Masses will be different also.  There are approximately 275 parking spaces on our property.  When the spaces are filled, there will be no more parking on the property.  The Parking lot will open at 2:45pm and will close when the last space is filled.  I respectfully request that there will be NO saving of seats.  I do encourage people who have other options to come and celebrate Christmas Mass at an alternate time other than 4:00pm.”

“As we celebrate this Christmas, may we always keep in mind the reason for the celebration:  Jesus Christ is born in Bethlehem.  He has come to save us from our sins and to show us how to live in love.  May this Christmas be for all of us a time of forgiveness, peace and love.  On behalf of the Sisters, the Clergy and our staff, may you and yours have a blessed and wonderful Christmas, full of love, happiness and memories.”
