Bethel Remembers 9/11
Bethel Remembers 9/11 ~ By Wendy Mitchell
Dozens gathered on the lawn of the Municipal Center lawn Sunday evening to pay tribute and remember the thousands who lost their lives on the tragic events of September 11th terrorist attacks. Pastors and clergy from all of Bethel’s churches offered prayers. Billy Michael accompanied Erin Volpintesta who sang “My Country Tis of Thee” and Shawn Silva who sang “Amazing Grace.” Julie Sorcek played the flute and bagpipe and drummer played a somber song to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks. Bethel’s firefighters, Boy Scouts and town officials were present at the solemn service as well. Rev. Pople of St. Thomas Church officiated the ceremony and closed in a nontraditional way, with the sound of the sirens to remember hose thousands of firefighters lost that day.
Below is a photo gallery of the service.
